tiger poor
Well, this should wipe off that famous smile of his! According to AP news tiger woods will
pay wife Elin Nordegren $750 million in their divorce settlement! Good for you Elin!

This will be the most expensive divorce ever in history. After proven by Elin’s legal team that
the once beloved golf star was worth more than $1 billion, the ex model ended up with about
double the amount she previously expected.

As reported by the British tabloid The Sun, in addition the settlement included several
addendums, mainly concerning their children, one of them being tiger not being allowed
to introduce any of his future girlfriends to their children unless he marries her.

Elin also gets full custody of the kids, though they will still share legal custody.
In exchange tiger will receive his ex wife’s silence, meaning zero interviews or book
deals otherwise she gets nothing.

In all this the one positive thing (however costly it may have been) that tiger has
managed to accomplish is what most husbands failed to do throughout history mainly
having their wives to shut the hell up! :)

Plane Crashes on Golf course near my House!

A plane crashed Thursday evening near the eighth hole of the Penmar Golf Course in Venice,
officials said. The incident occurred shortly after 6 p.m. near the Rose Avenue side of the
public golf course, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

It was unclear whether there were any injuries. Fire units were responding. What ’s even more
amazing about this news is for us that one of our editors lives 200 yards from the incident and
was practicing at the very golf course just 30 minutes earlier! This was not the first time he
got lucky as he himself crashlanded a plane a few years back, was featured in a local paper for
unsuccessfully trying to save a drowning scuba diver where he himself ended up in a
decompression chamber, had several skydiving mishaps and was hit 60 miles/hr at age 13 while
riding a bicycle where he was released 2 days later with minor scratches. Did i mention he was
also stabbed and shot at before (not at the same time) and rolled cars over several times. If i
hadn’t known the person myself and someone came with this story i’d say it was all made up too!

[updated]
according to the fire department unfortunately at least one of the occupants of the plane has died
in the accident. The crash occurred near the 8th hole of the 9 hole Penmar golf course. The
golf course is in the direct path of the planes taking off from the Santa Monica Airport and if you
were to encounter any problems during take off looks like a “perfect” alternative landing place
(minus the trees and the golfers of course).

Our “Bastard” relative, “Frisbee” (or disc) Golf

Most of you probably never heard of the PDGA which is short for Professional Disc (?!) Golf Association.

The “game” is played by throwing a disc into a trashcan looking basket or at (?) it.

frisbee-golf-basket
According to the PDGA the object of the game is to traverse
a course from beginning to end in the fewest number of
throws of the disc. The game is very inexpensive and requires
no athletic ability whatsoever! Apparently there are over
3000(!) established disc courses as of 2010 and most of them
supposed to be free!

No one really knows for sure who invented it or when. If i had
to guess it had to be on or near some military base where
people decided to throw their paper plates into the trash
instead of taking it there. (Hey, my theory is as good as the
ones that are out there!)

Tiger to break silence

February 18, 2010 by Roland

Reportedly on Friday, February 19th at the Sawgrass Marriott Resort & Spa the media from
around the world will be listening to what Golf’s Mr. (ex) picture perfect will have to say
for himself. About 300 journalists are expected to show up to hear his apology (i guess) and
what the future holds for him.

Friday’s statement by Woods at the Clubhouse is drawing loads of criticism for being a highly orchestrated, staged event. The limited number of press who can go inside the Clubhouse will be there by invitation only and no one is allowed to ask questions. Tonight, the Golf Writers Association of America, which was invited to be present when Woods speaks, announced it will boycott his speech entirely… striking back against the extremely controlled environment surrounding the golf star’s event. The three wire reporters who will be in the room with Woods represent the Associated Press, Reuters and Bloomberg

Who knows, maybe he’ll reveal that he finally accepted that 5 million $ deal from Ashley
Madison to be their spokesperson or he is just going to endorse some of the products (see below) that came to be thanks to his actions. :)

Elin Woods Settlement

December 3, 2009 by Golforbis Admin
Filed under Celebrities, Latest News, Tiger Woods

tiger_elinElin and Tiger Woods had a prenuptual agreement, as expected. The couple is undergoing marital counseling, as you’d also expect. And now The Daily Beast is reporting that Elin Woods is renegotiating that prenup to get an immediate $5 million payout from her husband and as much as $55 million more to stay with him for two more years.

The initial prenup was worth $20 million after 10 years of marriage. However, the Chicago Sun-Times’ Bill Zwecker has reported that Elin Woods will receive an immediate payment “into an account she alone controls,” and that the 10-year timeframe — which began when they married in 2004 — has been shortened and the value increased “substantially.”

The Daily Beast quotes “a lawyer familiar with the couple’s negotiations” in reporting that the term of the prenup has been shortened to seven years, and that a series of staggered payments could increase the total value to $75 million.

But apparently there’s also a behavioral component to all this: Elin Woods must “be a dutiful wife in showing up with him at social events and in public as if they were still the perfect couple, and sign a nondisclosure form that will prevent her from ever telling her story.”

It’s important to note that to date, there’s no concrete evidence that Elin Woods has ever been anything but the perfectly dutiful golf wife. I’m sure the Woodses would like nothing more than to portray domestic calm to the world, and Elin Woods now apparently has several million more reasons to do just that.

After learning about Elin’s beautiful (twin :) !) sister Josephine Nordegren’s existence, one does have to wonder why he just didn’t try to keep his desire to spice up his sex life in the family?!

Golf Sitcom?!

Bogeys 2.3
Finally a Golf Sitcom! yeey :) Our sources told us that a new sitcom called Bogeys is in the works.
It will be a situational comedy series that is centered around some rich kid who by making
a few mistakes after throwing a party while his parents are out of town, forced to make
a choice between loosing out on a car and the girl of his dreams or getting real job. (sounds
like an easy choice if u ask me!) The quickest solution is to get a job at his parents country club, instantly placing him in the middle of the chaotic, territorial and hilarious reality behind the
prestige most of us will never get a chance to experience. (i guess that’s why most people watch
all those VH1 shows about celebrities). Can you imagine a new episode of Caddyshack each week?! To be realistic no one can reproduce the success of Caddyshack and hopefully that is not what they are aiming for, but it’s not too difficult to see the potential for the show’s success based on the characters struggling with stereotypes and miscommunications.
Of course one can not film a TV show that is based on wealthy people and their lifestyle at a municipal golf course and make it look realistic, so the show will be featuring one of the more exclusive private course(s) around Los Angeles (most likely candidate is the Riviera Country Club).

Tiger Woods accident (update)

November 28, 2009 by Roland

Well, the good news is that Tiger is ok. The bad news (for him) is that (alleged) scandal that emerged.
The latest information in the “Tiger Woods wife golf club scandal” has 34-year-old New Yorker Rachel Uchitel telling the New York Post she was not involved in an affair with Woods. She’s also threatened to sue the National Enquirer, which alleged that the affair was real. That story ignited the alleged heated discussion between Woods and his wife Elin Nordegren, who according to TMZ actually struck Woods with a golf club and didn’t rescue him with it.

The original story told to the Windemere (Florida) Police Department was that Woods crashed his SUV into a hydrant and then a tree and Elin Nordegren used a golf club to break a window and free him from the vehicle. But  Elin Nordegren told a different story to the Florida Highway Patrol. That story has not been made public as of this writing. But the other story made public is one nightclub executive Rachel Uchitel is fighting.

Why are Golf Balls Dimpled?

July 11, 2009 by Golforbis Admin
Filed under Golf Balls, Instruction, Latest News, Other

So Why are Golf Balls Dimpled? Who knows, i guess someone somewhere down the line started
making them like that and everyone just started using them! Not quite, but close enough!
In a way, the reason why golf balls have dimples is a story of natural selection. Originally, golf
balls were smooth; but golfers noticed that older balls that were beat up with nicks, bumps and
slices in the cover seemed to fly farther. Golfers, being golfers, naturally gravitate toward anything
that gives them an advantage on the golf course, so old, beat-up balls became standard issue.

At some point, an aerodynamicist must have looked at this problem and realized that the nicks and
cuts were acting as “turbulators” — they induce turbulence in the layer of air next to the ball
(the “boundary layer”). In some situations, a turbulent boundary layer reduces drag.

The dimples, paradoxically, do increase drag slightly. But they also increase what is called the
“Magnus lift”, that peculiar lifting force experienced by rotating bodies travelling through a medium.
Magnus lift is present because a driven golf ball has backspin. The same Magnus effect can cause a
ball to hook or slice if it has sideways spin.

impetus trajectory

impetus trajectory

Contrary to simple ideas of trajectories in a vacuum, golf balls do not travel in inverted parabolas. They follow what is called an “impetus trajectory”. This is because of the combination of drag (which reduces horizontal speed late in the trajectory) and Magnus lift (which supports the ball
during the initial part of the trajectory, making it relatively straight). The trajectory can even curve upwards at first, depending on conditions!

A golf ball leaves the tee with a speed of about 70 m/s and a backspin of at least 50 rev/s. The
Magnus force can be thought of as due to the relative drag on the air on the top and bottom
portions of the golf ball: the top portion is moving slower relative to the air around it, so there is
less drag on the air that goes over the ball. The boundary layer is relatively thin, and air in the
not-too-near region moves rapidly relative to the ball. The bottom portion moves fast relative to
the air around it; there is more drag on the air passing by the bottom, and the boundary (turbulent)
layer is relatively thick; air in the not-too-near region moves more slowly relative to the ball. The
Bernoulli force produces lift. (Alternatively, one could say that “the flow lines past the ball are
displaced down, so the ball is pushed up.”)

A difficulty comes near the transition region between laminar flow and turbulent flow. At low
speeds, the flow around the ball is laminar. As speed is increased, the bottom part tends to go
turbulent first. But turbulent flow can follow a surface much more easily than laminar flow.
As a result, the laminar flow lines around the top break away from the surface sooner than
otherwise, and there is a net upward displacement of the flow lines. The Magnus lift becomes
negative.

dimples vs. smooth

dimples vs. smooth

The dimples aid the rapid formation of a turbulent boundary layer around the golf ball in flight, giving more lift. Without them the ball would travel in more of a parabolic trajectory, hitting the ground sooner (and not coming straight down). This was discovered by accident in the early days of golf when golfers noticed that old roughened golf balls went farther.

Despite the drag, a dimpled golf ball can even go farther in air than it would in vacuum given the same initial velocity and low angle. However, a golf ball shot at 45° and 70 m/s in vacuum would go 500 metres to the first bounce, which exceeds all records!
